Sporting carnage continues

You’d think with a dual nationality household we’d have SOME chance of supporting a winning team in Euro 2012. Not so. Last night Ireland played rubbish and lost 4-0 to Spain. Holland also lost 2-1 to Germany, but they didn’t do much to urge on their guys short of of dumping gallons of bitter criticism on them. The Irish fans produced this at the end of their game:

You’ll never beat the Irish, I guess.

Perhaps Ireland would play better football if we were more like the Dutch and got angrier about losing, but we’ve got that poetic fatalism which allows us to indulge in a wondrous bout of singing followed up, no doubt, by a wondrous bout of drinking. If nothing else, it’s entertaining to watch Ireland lose. It was more interesting than watching Spain win.

I’ll be rooting for Holland from now on, the flag is out and everything, whereas Ireland just played poorly Holland have the tragic situation where they have great players who have somehow forgotten that soccer is a TEAM sport. They do however excel in arrogance, haircuts, goodlooks and tattoos.

Oh Wesley stop crying will ya? My money’s on Germany for the cup.

Oh and I ran to retain some sanity in all this foolishness.
