Vondelparkloop
(This was supposed to be a 5km but they had dug up the park and planned on having it finished on time for the race but they didn’t count on frost freezing the ground hard)
It may look funny but they gave us these heart-shaped hand warmer packs after the race. It was so cold and wet I activated them and then stuffed them down my top on the tram trip home. A chemical reaction inside makes them warm. Pretty cool thing, also can be used as a reguarl ice pack.

My first real race. 5km around a piece of the Sloterplas park area in Amsterdam West. My favorite “medal” by far, because I need guts to turn up at this race alone. First time I ever ran on a real running track.

Prutmarathon (mud marathon)
Strangest run ever. Was genuinely expectinga quick run around a field and a splash about in water. Turned out to be hardcore lunacy. Was wrecked after the first water ditch, which runners had to crawl out of. Mud, mud mud. Was not clean for days afterwards. In a weird twist a guy from Dutch TV decided to torture me by filming most of my last round. I smiled and said what I thought was nice to say with my barely-there Dutch. As a reward, he asked for me to get a luxury only the winner should have, to be washed by a bunch of girls on the back of a truck with an audience. Strange day. When the mud was finally gone, I managed to sun burn myself as well.
Distance: 3km ( and a small matter of 72 water ditches)
